I Have Surviveded!

I survived the ‘cane, but it just got too hot. Mom loved the warm weather, but I couldn’t stand it, so I decided to pack up the CRV and head up to Lantana to my sis Toni’s house. I’ve received comments, e-mails, text messages, and calls from folks–THANK YOU! We are fine.

The morning storm delayed our trip, though. We took off from Kingwood while it was still raining at 10AM. Once I noticed my parking lot was filling up, I packed the truck so fast! I was scared of taking FM 1314 or other points north on US 59. So, I took the long, elevated way! I took 59 North to the Beltway, then I took the Beltway to I-45, then took off for the D/FW area. Once we got to US 287, I decided to take the scenic route. North Texas shore is purty! And I must say, Mansfield ISD has one purty lit’l stadium (on Hwy. 360).

My sis Toni had a nice hot meal for us, and we had all of our refrigerated stuff for them, including some of my brother in law’s frozen “kill” that he had given us. So, needless to say, we’re having venizon pan sausage in the morning–woo hoo!

I had not seen pictures of the Houston-area destruction, and I must say that now that I have seen the pics, I have required some wine to numb me. I’m thankful that we survived, that we made up here OK, etc. My thoughts are with all of you–whether you have a generator or not. And to my Kingwood neighbors who offered me some nice sums of cash to clean up their yards as I drove through our neighborhood…thanks, but I had to leave!

On the way up here, I must have seen 150 or so cherry pickers, plus more generators and other trucks. I think Houston will be fine. I just hope Kingwood has electricity soon, so I can drive back.

For those that worried, my momma is fine, but I think she’s enjoying the north Texas weather right now.

You all take care. I wil be in touch. To XP, thanks for worrying, but I must admit, I worried about you just as much, carnal. Saludos to all my friends. To my non-Houston friends who worried, thanks, Deb, Vanessa, etc. Love you lots!

I’ll be in touch as I gather my thoughts about FEMA’s lack of ice and water, the political whoring of Republican office holders (Culberson, etc.). Mayor White–you’re awesome and I would have loved to stay and helped, but my mom needed to get outta there. I’ll be back soon!

Hasta pronto. Muchos abrazos y mucho amor.
