June’s Brown Bag Lunch at the Harris County Democratic Party HQ featured our three freshman Texas House members: Freshman of the Year Kristi Thibaut (133), Carol Alvarado (145), and Armando Walle (140). All will be incumbents in 2010; however, as Walle mentioned several times during his presentation, “We need to re-elect Kristi.”
All three provided their overviews of the session, including updates on the bills they authored and/or sponsored. All three agreed that it was a great experience, and that Democrats controlled the session, as is evidenced in the budget and other bills. Together, Democrats were able to beat down an effort to disenfranchise thousands of voters.
What was pretty amazing was how full the room was of folks running in 2010, including Joe Montemayor for Justice of the Peace Pct. 3-2, Nile Copeland for Civil District 234, Bruce Mosier for Judge of the 4th County Civil Court, among others. It was also good to meet Mike Gomez, another one of our Judicials.
