Well, looks like Chief Hurtt isn’t going to San Francisco. As I mentioned previously, it doesn’t seem like Houston’s next mayor plans to keep him. And even though the Chief made it a point to say the HPD Jail’s 287(g) program was Mayor White’s idea, looks like San Fran is getting someone who may be a little bit more pro-migrant.
In the political realm, Gascón is Hispanic — he immigrated to the United States from Cuba as a boy — and is an advocate for sanctuary policies for illegal immigrants, which San Francisco has long embraced. He is also considered an expert on the issue of racial profiling of suspects.
I wonder if future Mayor Parker might want to steal Gascon away from San Fran?
