2010 Profiles: Marc Isenberg for the 313th Juvenile Court

Marc Isenberg was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.   He lived in Galena Park until his family moved to Galveston in 1961.   His family owned a jewelry store and Marc worked at running errands and making deliveries for the business.   While in Galveston, Marc became involved in the Boy Scouts.  With the support of his troop leader, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout.   One of his memorable experiences was attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where President Lyndon Johnson was a featured speaker.  He graduated from Ball High School in 1967.

Marc attended the University of Texas in Austin.   During the summer of 1968, he worked on a federally funded nutrition survey conducted by the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.   He was part of a team of 30 people who traveled throughout the State of Texas as a mobile medical team, offering medical services and transporting people to and from their homes.  He gained a clear understanding of the medical needs of a large segment of the population who did not access to private doctors.  He graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in sociology.

He then attended the University of Houston Law Center.  During one summer while still a law student, he worked at The Listening Ear, a 24 hour counseling facility in Galveston, assisting callers with a wide range of problems.  During law school,  he interned at the Houston Legal Foundation, representing indigent clients in the area of consumer law.  He graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 1974 and began work as a Staff Attorney at the Houston Legal Foundation.   During his five years of employment at the Houston Legal Foundation, he represented indigent clients in a wide range of consumer issues.

His legal work since has included work in a real estate firm, twelve years of insurance defense, and, since 1993,  private practice with his wife, where he specializes in both personal injury and juvenile law.    He has extensive experience in trial law, with  both court and jury trials in family, civil, and juvenile law.   In addition, he has handled appeals of  civil, juvenile and family law cases.  He has handled virtually every kind of case in juvenile court, ranging from shoplifting to capital murder.

He is board certified in both Personal Injury Trial Law and Juvenile Law, had mediation training through the Attorney Mediators Institute, and is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.   He is a member of the State Bar of Texas,  Juvenile Law Section of the State Bar, the Houston Bar Association, the Juvenile Law Section of the Houston Bar Association,  a member of the Houston Bar Association Juvenile Consequences Committee, and speaks to juveniles in Houston and Harris County schools.   He is currently serving as Treasurer of the Houston  Bar Association Juvenile Law Section.

He has been a featured speaker at the State “Nuts and Bolts” Juvenile Law Seminar,  a featured speaker at the Annual State Juvenile Law Conference and the Houston Juvenile Law Section monthly meetings.

He is a Sustaining Member of the Harris County Democratic Party, a member of the Greater Heights Democratic Club,  Harris County Tejano Democrats and Harris County Democrats.  He is also a member of the Shady Acres Civic Club and an Associate Member of Congregation Beth Jacob in Galveston.

He has been married for 30 years to his law partner, Miriam Riskind.
