Two local Democratic groups joined to attack Annise Parker’s senior-level staffing (actually, the “top 10 employees”) at the Controller’s office stating that it lacks diversity.
According to the Chron:
According to the Harris County Tejano Democrats and the Houston Black American Democrats, of the 10 top-level employees in Parker’s office, seven are white, one is black, one is Hispanic and one is Asian.
If one looks at the entire Controller’s staff, Parker can boast that her staff is comprised of 71% minorities. Given Houston’s low standard of living, the fact that the lowest paid administrative employee makes $31,000–not bad for government service–shows Parker treats her employees quite well. I’m sure it is also safe to say that these aren’t patronage jobs–they actually have work to do!
Those same two groups cite Gene Locke’s law firms “diversity efforts”; however, taking a quick look at the Houston “senior staff” or partners, there seems to be some slim pickings in the diversity department there. So, let’s not get all high and mighty trying to make some news
So, what was the purpose of this attack? This is almost as newsworthy as the whole Crispy Tacos e-mail Locke’s folks sent out.
