State Becoming Educated Despite the Bigots

My post title would have worked better on the APs article.

One would figure that the Associated Press would support equality in educational opportunities, but their latest article on undocumented students entering college seems more like an op-ed attack–especially their offensive title.

Thousands of illegal immigrants paid in-state tuition or received other financial aid at public colleges and universities across Texas during late 2009.

Well, in Texas and numerous other states, it is a right, thanks to forward-looking legislators who feel that an educated workforce is a lot better than one which remains stagnant.

Obviously, becoming educated and degreed is not enough as the federal government has done nothing to close the deal of granting status to these young people.  More often than not, the vast majority of these kids were brought over here by parents seeking a better life for their kids.

And to overcome the economic, political and societal barriers that continue to be put up by those in power, complete school with college-qualifying grades, and entering college earns them a reward, if you ask me.

Advice:  Ignore the racist comments in the article.

Yep. There’s no faster or surer way to lower one’s opinion of humanity than to read the comments at chron.com.
