A Note for state Senator Sylvia Garcia
In Texas, the fight for women’s equality has taken three steps back for every one step forward. Senator Wendy Davis made clear on Tuesday, June 25 that she was going to end this trend and take a stand for women everywhere when she engaged in a 13 hour filibuster in the Texas Senate against legislation aimed at closing 37 of the 42 women’s health clinics in Texas. These clinics provide live-saving cancer screenings for men and women, breast exams, pap smears, pelvic exams, test and treatments for sexually transmitted infections, blood pressure and diabetes screenings in addition to reproductive care and family planning services.
Politicians in Austin are blocking Texans from speaking out against this harmful legislation that would deny Texas women the right to make their own private medical decisions, and essentially end access to safe and legal abortion in the state.
The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hear SB1 by Hegar onMonday, July 8th at 10:00 AM in E1.036. Join pro-choice activists in Austin or visit your legislator’s local district office and tell them you stand with Texas women.

Perry’s Plans for the Pfuture
While John has an excellent leaked press release on Perry’s Plans for the Pfuture, Kuff has an equally funny take, along with what folks in the media are thinking. Frankly, it’s been obvious to me that Texas Media keeps the Perry
mistake mystique alive just to give themselves something to write about. If Perry runs for the big prize again, that means Texas media gets to travel out of state–how exciting for them, while the rest of the state suffers through Perry’s continued crapping upon Texas.
