ICYMI: Kuff’s Got Guests!

Some of my favorite candidates have been appearing on OffTheKuff.com. In case you haven’t read them, here are a few links to those you ought to read.

Start off with my friend, the DC-endorsed candidate for Constable Pct. 1, Cindy Vara-Leija’s on a very important woman in her life–her mom. I can definitely identify with this piece on a woman who made it her business to get people registered to vote during the days of the poll-tax. Whether it was getting passed the poll tax or empowering people with information, many of us have been influenced by those who were pioneers. These are the stories that candidates and activists should continue telling.

Another good one comes from another one of my favorite candidates in the run-off, Erica S. Lee for Harris County School Board. Lee details just how we can keep a first-grader off of Death Row, which obviously means more investment in education and a concerted effort at targeting the achievement gap, among other barriers to success. Give it a read and, if you reside in Harris County Commissioner’s Pct. 1, give her your vote!

I’m realizing I have a lot of favorite people, but this guy really is one of them–Steve Brown, Chairman of the Fort Bend County Democratic Party. Chairman Brown talks to Kuff’s readers about how grown-ups will naturally gravitate toward the Texas Democratic Party platform. Ultimately, the TDP platform just makes sense, but Chairman Brown tells us how and why it makes sense.

And a little bird tells me to expect a guest-post on Kuff regarding Houston Latino politics. It should be very interesting, said the little bird.
