Siggno Joins Rodeo Line-Up

It’s a dream come true, according to an Instagram post by Jesse Turner, leader and vocalist of Grupo Siggno, who, along with Banda El Recodo, will be performing at RodeoHouston’s Tejano Day. And I must say, this is the closest the Rodeo has come to the Tejano genre in a long time.

Siggno is an acordeon-heavy South Texas Conjunto Norteño outfit out of the Rio Grande Valley. From their bajo-quinto laden rancheras to their heavy bottom bass cumbias to their rock/pop-influenced ballads, Siggno offers a powerful live show from start to finish. And in a shortened kind of show as bands are usually required to provide at the Rodeo, I’d bet Siggno’s will be explosive.

Siggno is currently touring on two albums, the recently released Rockteño and Yo Te Esperare which was released in early 2016. Already going on 15 years in the business, Siggno has enjoyed fan bases throughout the US and Mexico. After a tragic accident seriously injured Turner’s son and bassist, Jacob, they’ve remained busy. No doubt, this March 19 date at NRG Stadium will go down as one of their largest audiences.

The new and highly anticipated release of Siggno’s Zodiacal happened on Tuesday and already it is #1 on iTunes. Let me tell you, fans and listeners will enjoy this new production recorded at Freddie Records and in Mexico at Los Temerarios’ recording studio.

Known for their heavy rhythm section and hard-driving tunes, Siggno doesn’t disappoint on Zodiacal. Vocally, though, it would seem to be lead vocalist Jesse Turner’s best effort yet. In fact, in a pre-release interview produced by the band, Turner states that after the vocal tracks were laid, the record company chiefs decided that much more could be brought out of him at the Mexico studio and Turner went through the motions to re-record the vocals. Apparently, Turner struck gold as he seems to give it all he’s got vocally.

Siggno has assembled some great composers for this album, giving this new set of songs some lyrical maturity. One can notice this on rancheras Asi Sera, Inevitable and El Vaso Derrama, on the cumbia Sin Nada Que Perder, and the ballad Te Llevare.

Overall, Zodiacal is a powerful and diverse mix of tunes that keeps one toe-tapping and wanting for a dance floor. The waltzy Tus Labios could be a good live tune, while the uptempo cumbia Un Monton De Estrellas will keep folks dancing. My favorite tune, thus far, is the ranchera Y A El Si, with the excellent drumming of Joey Jimenez and the creative bajo playing of Richard Rosales, which actually, is evident in every tune on the album.

No doubt, this production has something for all ears and will be a fan favorite on both sides of the border. The good thing about Siggno is that they are more than able to reproduce the sound on stage, so, I’m looking forward to hearing the new music in a live setting.

Tex-Mex showband and Latin Grammy winners Siggno just released their long-awaited live album, “En Vivo.” Recorded in multiple cities, including Houston and Laredo, Jesse Turner and his tight-knit band give us a good live recording–as good as their live shows, which are really good. Kudos to Freddie Records for some great post-production work.

siggnoFans who love them will miss the light and pyro show they sometimes bring with them, but what listeners will definitely not miss is the power-drumming of Joey Jimenez and the rock-n-bajo of Richard Rosales. And what listeners definitely get is a drive through Siggno’s 14-year career, with recent hits like Mi Mundo Se Acabo and Yo Quisiera Detenerte and earlier hits like Pero Hablama and Estupida. Other hits, like Mejor Dimelo, and Ya No Me Importa will definitely keep hard-core fans happy. The album even has a tear-jerker part in which band leader Turner dedicates Mama to his mom.

What many fans were awaiting was the release of four new tracks. Getting much airplay and YouTube hits is En La Basura. Enamorados, Tonto Corazon, and Duele definitely have the potential to be fan favorites.

All-in-all, it’s a great collector’s item and cruising partner for those sunny Sundays.
